On January 13-20, 2020, East Eagle Foundation conducted seven training workshops for primary schoolteachers and education officials across the city of Lubumbashi. The workshop aimed to equip the educators with the necessary skills and knowledge to help improve the outcomes of their students. The themes of the workshops focused on teaching practices and understanding needed in order to work in inclusive surroundings, creating curriculum, and inclusive education in order to help teachers function with kids who have handicaps.
The EEF has carried out a series of meetings with schools and educational stakeholders in the city of Lubumbashi, leading to the choice of twenty-two schools to be interviewed. The interviews with teachers and head teachers were conducted for the purpose of pinpointing key areas such as the rights of those with disabilities, child protection, disability rights awareness, and other support for students with special learning needs. This information was utilized to create training materials, while the following seven schools were determined to host the training workshops:
- St Therese School
- Epiphany School Complex
- Sacred Heart School
- Kamalondo Primary School
- Pax School Complex
- P1 Mapatano
- Shaba Primary School.
The EEF is now planning more such workshops in the future and will continue its series of consultations with schools and other educational stakeholders including state agencies such as Ministry of Education at provincial and local (Sub-Proved) to monitor the implementation of the material to be developed by the program and also identify challenges and opportunity as well as other teaching strategies that help students of all backgrounds to be successful in the regular education classroom.
